The Transition Network of Long Island, Contemporary Social Issues Committee invites you to join us at a program at the Preservation of Long Island Organization which oversees an ongoing re-interpretation of Joseph Lloyd Manor (1767) through the Jupiter Hammon Project, 1211-ca. 1806.
Juptiter Hammon was America’s first published African American poet. He was enslaved by four generations of the Lloyd family. While enslaved he wrote powerfully about the social and moral conflicts raised in the newly formed United States. Join us to learn about Jupiter Hammon’s journey.
