About this event

Vietnam War Veteran & Nurse: A Life of Service

The 71st Evacuation Hospital at Pleiku, Vietnam during the Vietnam War was an area of heavy combat and casualties, due to its proximity to the borders of Laos and Cambodia, as well as to a major U.S. airbase, making it a prime target for the Viet Cong. In the midst of this was 22-year old Second Lieutenant Joan Furey, U.S. Army Nurse Corps, arriving in country in January 1969.

The Long Island Chapter’s Anti-Racism Task Force is honored to welcome U.S. Army Veteran Combat Nurse Joan Furey, who continued to serve veterans as a nurse during her 30-year career with the Veterans Administration. A veteran and a nurse throughout her life, Joan has received numerous awards and has been featured in documentaries. Please join us.
